25% off everything on Sunday, plus our book club becomes more charming

Dear Reader,

After another nail-biter of a poll, you chose the gorgeous, darkly funny, award-winning zombie novel It Lasts Forever and Then It’s Over as our next book club read. Kate abstained from voting, because the author, Anne de Marcken, is a friend, but It Lasts Forever and Then It’s Over still edged out The Wax Child, by Olga Ravn. (That said, The Wax Child got so many votes, we’ll likely make it a future book club selection. In the meantime, we picked up a few extra copies for the store.)

Even bigger book club news: To accommodate the true size of our club, we’re partnering with the amazing folks at Charmers Café to hold our meetings in their space! We’ll still be bringing our own snacks and drinks, but we’ll finally have room for the group to expand and contract, without having to fuss about RSVPs. Thanks a million to Carrie and Annie at Charmers for this generous gift to our club.

Since we only need one group meeting per book now, we’ll alternate Tuesdays and Sundays on a monthly basis. So we’ll meet to discuss It Lasts Forever and Then It’s Over on Sunday, November 9, at 5:30 p.m., and then we’ll discuss our next pick on Tuesday, December 9, at 6:30 p.m.

We hope this means all existing book club members can join us at least 6 times a year, and new folks can feel welcome to drop in any time.

This Weekend

The final outdoor Jarvis Square Artisan Market of 2025 is tomorrow, Saturday, October 11. Please come out and support our local makers before they go into hibernation.

And as a reminder, Sunday, October 12, is our birthday! To celebrate our first year in business, we’re offering 25% off everything, so please come in and make us regret it.

Closed Tuesday-Thursday Next Week

One last reminder: We’re both going to a bookselling conference out of town this week, so the store will be closed Tuesday, October 14-Thursday, October 16. We can’t wait to come back full of new ideas about how the bookstore can be a community hub in dark times.

Stay safe out there, friends.
